Overview
What makes it worth it
The Murray® MT100 is a budget-friendly riding lawn tractor built by Briggs & Stratton for homeowners with flat or gently rolling yards up to 2 acres. The 500cc Briggs & Stratton® E Series™ E1350 single-cylinder engine puts out 13.5 HP and pairs with a 6-speed manual transaxle, so you choose a ground speed once and cruise — no pedal-hold fatigue on long passes. An Anti-Vibration System (AVS®) at the engine mounts smooths out the ride. The 42-in. stamped 13-gauge steel deck runs twin blades with anti-scalp wheels and adjusts across 13 cutting heights via a single lever, giving you a clean, even cut. Mow-in-Reverse lets you keep cutting into tight corners without stopping. The tight 18-in. turning radius trims neatly around trees and beds, the translucent fuel tank lets you check level at a glance, and the 13-in. padded high-back seat with built-in cup holder keeps you comfortable through a full property. Turn-key electric start, headlights, and a 2-year limited residential warranty round it out. Ships direct from The Home Depot fully assembled.

Perfect first rider for my 1.5 acres
I was pushing a walk-behind for years and finally caved. Assembly was done at the store, dropped off in the driveway. Started first turn of the key, cut my whole 1.5 acres in about an hour with the deck at position 6. Twin blades leave a clean line, no clumping. For the price this thing is a home run.

Great value — does exactly what it says
I don't need hydrostatic or a V-twin for my flat yard. 6-speed gear drive is fine — you pick 4th and just let it go. Turning radius is tight enough to get around my trees without a K-turn. Really happy with this Murray.

Briggs engine has plenty of power at this size
500cc Briggs starts every time, even on cool mornings. I've cut wet grass at 3 inches and it didn't bog. For a 42-inch single-cylinder tractor it has more grunt than I expected. AVS mounts make it noticeably smoother than my old Craftsman.

Mow-in-reverse is the feature I use most
My back yard has a bunch of tight corners around a deck and a shed. Being able to back up while still cutting saves me so many extra passes. Wish my last tractor had this. Fuel tank being translucent is also great — no more surprise stalls.

Solid budget rider, one small note
Cuts great, starts easy, tight turns. Only knock is the seat back is a little low for my 6'2" frame — fine for a 45-minute session but you feel it after 90 minutes. For under $1,700 I have zero complaints otherwise.

Bought over a $2,500 hydro — no regrets
I looked hard at the hydrostatic tractors and just couldn't justify the extra $900 for my flat yard. This MT100 does everything I need. Gear drive is easy once you learn the pattern. Twin-blade deck cuts as clean as my neighbor's John Deere and I have $900 in my pocket.

Chews through St. Augustine like a champ
St. Augustine is thick and matted and I was worried a 13.5 HP would struggle. Set the deck at 3.5 in. and just went. Blades stay engaged, no stalling, no clumping. Very impressed for the price.

Turning radius is unbelievable for a lawn tractor
18 inches is not a typo — I can spin this thing tighter than any tractor I've owned. Trimming around my mailbox and around trees takes almost no extra passes. Big quality-of-life upgrade for how tight my property is.

Great tractor for the money
It's not a Cub Cadet XT1, but it's also less than half the price. For a flat 1-acre yard this is all the tractor most people need. Only reason for 4 stars — I wish it had a fuel gauge instead of just the translucent tank.

Assembled at the store, delivered ready to mow
Bought it at Home Depot, they assembled it and delivered it fully gassed. Rolled off the trailer and I was mowing 10 minutes later. Cut is even, tractor is quieter than expected, and my 1.2 acres is done in about 50 minutes.

6-speed gear drive is easier than I expected
I was nervous about the manual shift after riding a hydro at my dad's place. Reality — you shift once at the start of the yard and never touch it. Fourth gear is my sweet spot. Would buy again.

Handles my rolling yard fine
My yard isn't flat but it isn't a mountain either. The MT100 has no trouble on the slopes I've got, engine stays strong, blades stay engaged. Very happy for the price.

Excellent value — minor gripe on the parking brake
Tractor is exactly what I needed for my 3/4-acre lot. Only gripe is the parking brake pedal is a little stiff at first and takes some getting used to. Otherwise no complaints. Way better than the used Snapper I was going to buy.

Cool-looking tractor and it cuts great
I like the black and orange look — it doesn't look like a boring beige tractor. More importantly it starts every time and my flat Florida yard is done in about 40 minutes at wide-open throttle. Twin blades leave a great finish.

Second year, still going strong
Almost a full season on it — no issues at all. Changed the oil and blades at 25 hours, that's the extent of maintenance. Belt still looks new. For a $1,600 tractor this thing has been rock solid.

Great starter tractor for a small farm
We have 1.75 acres of pasture-ish yard around the house. MT100 handles it fine at position 4 on the deck. Only note — it's a gear drive so you can't stop and start on a hill without a little roll-back. Fine on flats, just be aware if you've got real slopes.

Briggs 500cc has been bulletproof
This is my third Briggs-powered tractor in 20 years and honestly, the small Briggs singles are just workhorses. Starts every time, sips fuel, and the AVS mounts make this one smoother than the last one I had. Very happy.
