Upgraded from a 20-year-old MTD. The IntelliPOWER engine is the real deal — I went through knee-high wet spring grass and it never bogged. Pedal drive is smooth and cruise control is a nice touch on the long straight sections along my driveway. Assembled in about 15 minutes out of the crate.
I'm not a big person and I was nervous about handling a rider this size. Turned out to be a non-issue — the steering is light, the seat is genuinely comfortable, and the 16-inch turning radius gets me around my trees without a three-point. Deck wash port is such a small thing but it makes cleanup way easier.
My back yard has a real slope and I was worried about a lawn tractor holding traction. Between the weight, the Turf Saver rear tires, and the hydro drive it stays planted going up and coming down. Cast-iron front pivot bar makes it feel a lot more solid than my old $1,700 tractor did.

Compared to the Craftsman T2200 I was cross-shopping, this one has a noticeably heavier deck and a real cast-iron front pivot. Cuts great. Docking one star because the parking brake is a little stiff at first — loosened up after 5 hours of use.
I mow a mix of Bermuda and clover and half of it is always damp in the morning. My last tractor had to be babied through it at half speed. This one just powers through at full pedal without the engine note changing. Very impressed.
The high-back seat is the difference maker. I used to take a break halfway through my property with the old mower — with the XT1 I just do the whole thing in one shot. Cruise control on the long back stretch is money.
Only real complaint — no fuel gauge from the factory. Everything else is excellent. Deck is easy to level, blades were sharp out of the box, and the twin-blade design leaves a genuinely nice striped cut on my fescue.
My old LTX1040 gave me 12 seasons before the transmission went. Bought this XT1 LT42 IP as a direct replacement. Everything is a step up — bigger engine, LED lights, cast-iron pivot, deck wash port, and the seat is way more comfortable. Cub Cadet has kept the same DNA and just made it better.
I do a lot of towing — cart, dethatcher, small sprayer — and the 5-year frame + front axle warranty is what pushed me from the base model to this one. So far the tractor has handled everything I've hooked to it. Rear hitch is solid steel.
Cuts great, engine is powerful, and it starts in cold weather no problem. Two small notes: the seat spring is a little stiff for lighter riders, and the deck belt needed a small adjustment after the first 10 hours. Both easy fixes. Would buy again.
My neighbor and I bought riding tractors within a week of each other — his an S100, mine this XT1 LT42 IP. Same 42-inch deck size, same price point. Side by side, this Cub has a stronger engine (547cc vs 500cc), a heavier deck stamping, and a noticeably nicer seat.
