Went from an old 42-in single-cylinder to this 54-in Kohler V-twin and the difference is night and day. My 3-acre lot used to take 2.5 hours and now it's about an hour and fifteen. The AeroForce deck leaves it looking like it was striped, and the electric PTO is so much better than the manual lever on my old mower.
I have a mix of Bermuda and centipede, and half of my yard sits on a moderate slope. This tractor holds pedal through it without the engine ever dropping RPM. The K46 hydro is smooth and the disc brakes actually stop it firmly on the downhill. Dealer delivery was easy — showed up assembled and gassed.
The three-blade fabricated deck is the reason I bought this over the stamped 46-in. Cut quality on fescue is genuinely beautiful — no clumps, no missed strips. Four gauge wheels plus the rear roller mean I don't scalp around the trees anymore either.
I tow a 500-lb yard cart, a plug aerator, and a small sprayer with this thing. Old tractor's front axle developed play after two seasons. This one has the cast-iron front pivot bar and it feels like a completely different class of machine. 5-year axle warranty sealed the deal for me.
Cut quality, power, and comfort are all top of class for the price. Only reason it isn't 5 stars is that at $3,499 an hour meter and armrests really should be included, not $50 and $190 accessories. Everything else about this tractor is exactly right.
Free dealer delivery — driver dropped it exactly where I wanted, went over the controls, made sure the battery was charged and the fluids were topped off. Started first turn of the key. Been running it for a month on tall spring growth and it hasn't missed once.
St. Augustine is brutal on mowers — thick, matted, and wants to clump. The AeroForce deck and the 24 HP Kohler chew through it with the deck at 3.5 in and never bog. Turned around and did my Bermuda front lawn at 2 in with the same result. Very impressed.
The high-back seat with 10° incline is the real difference maker. I used to have to stand up and stretch halfway through my property. With this one I just cruise the whole thing in one shot. Cruise control on the long back stretches saves my right foot.
Went back and forth between this and the LT46 that has a manual PTO. So glad I spent the extra for electric. One switch — blades engaged, or blades stopped. No more reaching down and yanking a lever every time I cross the driveway.
This is my only real complaint — no fuel gauge from the factory on a $3,500 tractor. Everything else is excellent. Deck is easy to level, blades were sharp out of the box, and the triple-blade design leaves a really nice striped cut on my tall fescue.
My old LTX1050 gave me 14 seasons before the deck cracked and the transaxle started leaking. Bought this XT1 ST54 FAB as a direct replacement. Bigger engine, wider fabricated deck, electric PTO, LED lights, and the lifetime deck-shell warranty. Cub Cadet built on what worked and made it better.
I do a lot of towing and I'm hard on decks — always hitting a stump or a rock somewhere on my property. Lifetime limited warranty on the fabricated deck shell is unheard of at this price. The deck itself feels heavy and solid, nothing like the stamped decks on the cheaper tractors I looked at.
Cuts great, engine is powerful, handles cold starts no problem. Only note is the parking brake takes some getting used to — it's stiff at first and softens up after 10 hours. Would buy again in a heartbeat. Way more tractor for the money than the Craftsman I cross-shopped.
My neighbor bought an E150 the same weekend I bought this. Same 24 HP class, same 54-in deck size, similar price. Side by side, my Cub has a heavier fabricated deck, electric PTO (his is manual), LED lights instead of halogen, and the seat is genuinely more comfortable. Cut quality is a wash — both good.
First mow of the season, grass was 8 inches tall and still damp from an overnight rain. The 747cc Kohler V-twin didn't even change tone — just chewed through it and threw the clippings way clear of the deck. Very impressed with the AeroForce airflow.
I was worried about the carbureted Kohler at altitude but it starts and runs fine. Slight power drop compared to sea level but still cuts my property without issue. Only reason it's 4 stars — I wish Cub Cadet still offered EFI on this frame.
