I already had the ZT1 46 for four years — great machine. Upgraded to the Z2 46 mostly for the Kawasaki FR651V and cast-iron front axle. The FR is smoother, quieter, and holds RPM in tall grass better than the Kohler on the ZT1. Same great AeroForce deck, more mower underneath.

Dual levers were intimidating on the test drive. By the end of the first tank I was trimming beds and doing K-turns like I'd owned one for years. Cub Cadet's steering dampers make the levers forgiving — small inputs don't send you sideways.
Only nitpick — at this price the ZS-series suspension platform would be nice. The rubber-mounted foot platform helps a lot but on rough ground you feel it. Everything else is perfect. Cut, engine, warranty, build — all top-tier.
Every competitor in this class is 3 years / 300 hours or less. Cub Cadet is 4 years unlimited on the mower and 3 years on the Kawasaki. That is a huge tell about how they view the build quality. Machine has lived up to it so far.
I keep Bermuda at 2 in. Any deck flex and I get scalping on my rolling front yard. The AeroForce fab deck is stiff enough that I don't scalp anywhere — clean, even cut across the whole property.

Part of my yard is a real slope. Dual EZT2200s hold speed downhill, no runaway. Cast-iron axle and low center of gravity make it feel planted. Feels safer on hills than the Ariens IKON I test-drove.
Cold morning, hot afternoon, doesn't matter. Half a turn of the key and the FR fires. Auto-choke works exactly as advertised. Big upgrade from the pull-start B&S on my old walk-behind.
Only complaint — the plastic clip holding the deck belt cover is fiddly to reseat. Wish it was a metal thumb-latch. Belt itself looks fine at 40 hours. Everything else is stellar.
Thick St. Augustine used to lug my old tractor. Kawasaki FR doesn't even notice it. AeroForce deck lays it down clean and even. Neighbors have asked what mower I switched to.
About 70 hours in. Oil, filter, blade sharpen — done. Belts look new, deck is straight, engine runs like day one. This is a keeper for the next decade at least.
In summer I like to mow before the heat. The LED headlights are bright enough to actually see the grass line at 6 a.m., not just to be legal. Underrated feature.
Measured the 46-in Z2 carefully — it clears my 48-in back gate with about an inch on each side. That was the deciding factor over the Z2 54. Same premium build, right size for my property.
